2020年、突如目に見えぬ脅威が世界を襲い、あらゆる制限がかけられ、
またたく間に人々の生活は一変しました。
東京では今もなお蔓延するその脅威。
そんな中、オリンピック・パラリンピックが開催された東京の人々は、何を思い、どんな明日を想い描いているのでしょうか。
不要不急を問われるアートや文化。
フランス出身のアーティストJRが、2011年より世界中の様々な場所で呼びかけたアートプロジェクト、インサイドアウトプロジェクトは、それでもそこに生きる一人一人の、たくましく、自由なその存在をこの街に映し出しています。
In 2020, an invisible threat suddenly struck the world and all kinds of restrictions were imposed. In the blink of an eye, the people’s lives were changed.
In Tokyo, the threat is still prevalent. In the midst of all this, what are the people in Tokyo, where the Olympic and Paralympic Games are hold, thinking about and envisioning for tomorrow?
Art and culture are being questioned as nonessential and non-urgent. INSIDE OUT PROJECT, an art project that French artist JR has been calling people in various places around the world to participate since 2011, still reflects the resilient and free existence of each and every person living in this city.

水の波紋展2021
江戸時代から東京のランドスケープは火事、地震、戦争によりそのありようを変えてきた。それは、オリンピックにおいても例外ではない。 1995年に開催した「水の波紋95」展では、アート作品を青山の街に点在させ、普段は歩かない都市の裏側の魅力をみてもらうことを意識しキュレーションを実施した。 今回の「水の波紋2021」では、変わろうとしている新旧の街並みの狭間にあえて作品を配置するよう試みた。企画者である私が地元住民ということで、子どもの頃よく遊んだ公園、同級生が住んでいた団地などを多く登場させることになった。再開発によってこれらが消えていくことに少し感傷的になった感もあるだろう。 オリンピックと同時期に開催ということから展示場所の確保が難しかったが、表通りから見えない現在の街の風景と、若いアーティストたちの街への想いを作品として見ていただけると確信している。
「パビリオン・トウキョウ2021」とあわせて9月5日まで開催しているので、2つの街の企画を一緒にご覧いただける。「パビリオン・トウキョウ2021」は、建築的で青山通りを中心としているが、「水の波紋2021」では、さらに小道に入りアート作品を１つ１つ訪ねていただきたい。今回街に放ったさまざまな作品が観客の皆さんの新たな発見に繋がっていくことを願っている。

ABOUT JR
The artist JR owns the biggest art gallery in the world. He exhibits in the streets of the world, making art for all and catching the attention of people who are not typical museum visitors. From his very beginning when he found a camera on the Paris subway to the present days with projects like WOMEN ARE HEROES, THE WRINKLES OF THE CITY, UNFRAMED JR has been invited to make and share art all around the world.
INSIDE OUT PROJECT
In 2011, JR receives the TED Prize and wins a "wish to change the world". He creates Inside Out, an international participatory art project that allows people worldwide to get their picture taken and paste it. Over 200,000 posters were posted in more than 130 countries. Each Inside Out project around the world is documented, archived and exhibited online for all to share.
