Lois Weinberger
Roof Garden
1998/99
This artist planted plants in this garden last spring in Japan
and let them grow for one year without repair (neither water
nor fertilizer). He came to Japan again in this April to arrange
it for the exhibition "Empty Garden. "
About 40 kinds of plants here are all called ruderal plants,
which is adaptable to any circumstances and survive in cities
or in deserted artificial circumstances. Actually, most of them
have never been in Japan so far. Some of them dissapeared while
some Japanese plants has also started to appear, carried by winds
and birds.
Immigrations happen, no matter what - you have to practise
living and dealing with strangers. Lois Weinberger
Furthermore, this artist defines this work by a phrase "precise
heedlessness. "
This garden has been regularly recorded by a workshop team of
about 40 people for one year from its start in April 1998 to
its exhibition on April 24 1999. The observation file and data
are for reference on the 4th floor.
