When I first met Mr. Nara, I never thought I would go on a journey together like this. The map within myself was redrawn one by one through the acquaintance of people and places which I would have never been able to
make on my own. Aomori and Hokkaido, situated at the edge of Japan was the doorway to the Northern lands.
Sakhalin is situated at the east end of a great country addressed Russia, but it was actually an island with doors open to both the north and south.
Brrought to the north land by coincidence rather than following my own will, a new world stretched out before my eyes that I have never seen.
As I glanced back, even the place where I once stood seemed to appear completely different. I have hope to share even if only a hint of this invaluable path of journey through photography.

Naoki Ishikawa

Being unable to recall what triggered me, the final destination remained ambiguous, as I found myself going north, and further more north with Ishikawa. Encountering people and scenery, with the life and history revealed from them.
What was it that captured my heart, what was on my mind when I released the shutter?
How far have I been able to proceed from where I used to be?
One thing I am certain about, is that I have begun perceiving northward from that point.
Yes, to the north, from here.
